Stalkers have a new arsenal of apps
|
More than 200 digital tools are available for stalkers to monitor their victims.
The news: According to a report by the New York Times, more than two dozen companies are pitching their services as a way to spy on romantic partners (and tens of thousands of people are). But the software can be an enabler for domestic abuse.
What the apps can do: Location data, texts, or secret video recordings can be obtained from the victim’s phone, depending on the service.
Moving forward: This type of digital stalking often goes unreported, and it’s hard to prove that software has been installed against a victim’s will. Apple and Google, however, are making efforts to crack down on apps in their online stores that offer spying services.
